What if design doesn't have time for countless iterations? What if your first idea had to be the best? For this project we were tasked to create a piece of furniture from nothing but a 2m x 2m MDF board. The designed furniture had a specific purpose: to showcase design objects and prototypes at exhibitions. The primary focus was on creating a flexible design that could effectively display objects of various sizes at different heights. The goal was to ensure that users could easily switch between predefined positions to provide visitors with an optimized viewing experience. Within 2 days our design had to go through ideation, creation and presentation all while being restricted to only 7 hours of worktime each day. The concept i delivered was 'Shift'.
The setup and takedown of Shift only required 1 person and approximately 2 minutes, all without the need for additional tools. Given that the four panels required for assembly are made of MDF, the exhibition furniture boasts stability and can guarantee long-lasting quality. The panels can be painted if desired. Additionally, I chose to overlap the panels in specific positions, allowing for the inconspicuous installation of lighting when needed. To try a different position, tilting the body is sufficient. Moreover, pushing two bodies together can create additional exhibition space.
